By the next June 24th , 2003, the brazilian group Lata Mágica (Magic Can) will be launching its new project, called O Olhar Passageiro (Passenger´s Eye). The project will display pinhole photographies inside all the 1600 buses that circulate through the streets of Porto Alegre, as well as produce a set of 25 postcards. The photographies present images of significant places of this city, located in the extreme south of Brazil. Porto Alegre became a worldwide known city by the year 2000, through the organization of the World Social Forum, and the Passenger's Eye will be exhibited to the public at the same period the city receives the IV Bienal do Mercosul (Biennial of Visual Arts of Mercosouth). To produce the Passenger's Eye, the group has created 25 stickers with photographies from pinhole handmade cameras (large metalic drilled cans) with photographic paper. The images are in B&W, 30x40cm, and will be displayed inside all the city´s buses (one image in each bus), so the exhibition will be available to around 1.2 million people every day, from june to december. To mark the opening of the project, a parallel exhibition will take place at the Lunara´s Gallery (Centro Cultural Usina do Gasômetro) from June 24th to July 30th. The
group Lata Mágica (Magic Can) is formed by five young photographers:
Guilherme Galarraga, Maísa del Frari, Paula Biazus, Pedro Araújo and
Rafael Johann. During the last four years, the group has developed many
education projects with pinhole photography (workshops, courses and
special projects) as well as has worked in authorship photography. The
images from Passenger's Eye can be viewed through Lata Mágica's website.
